—— Our Story

The Thunderbird  Story.

Thunderbird's story begins with DocuVault, a Denver-based records management company launched by Bowen in 1997. Working together, Bowen and Lana expanded the original business into a family of complementary companies including DocuVault Group LLLP, DocuVault Colorado, DocuVault Secure Shredding, DocuVault Data Security, and MediVault.

Over the following decade, the DocuVault companies grew to approximately $12 million in annual revenue, nearly 100 employees, and more than 1,200 customers before being acquired by Iron Mountain in 2008 in a transaction valued in the tens of millions of dollars.

—— Founder & Managing Partner

Bowen Banbury

Following the successful sale of DocuVault, Bowen and Lana established Thunderbird Capital as the platform for what came next: building, acquiring, and owning businesses from the perspective of experienced operators.

Bowen subsequently founded and led Future Wireless, a multistate T-Mobile retail business, which was successfully exited in 2022. He continues to focus on identifying opportunities, building strong leadership teams, and helping businesses reach their full potential.

Our Philosophy

Those experiences shaped Thunderbird's central belief: lasting value is created through disciplined execution, capable people, sound judgment, and patient ownership—not short-term financial engineering.

Today, Thunderbird Capital serves as the long-term home for a growing family of businesses. We seek durable companies with loyal customers, strong employees, and meaningful potential for continued growth. We respect what founders have built, preserve the culture and relationships that made the business successful, and provide the leadership, resources, and operating discipline needed for its next chapter.
